How to best participate

The whole point of designating specific times for these chats is to increase the odds that people with similar interests will be able to connect with each other. Keep in mind that some people arrive 15 minutes early and others tend to arrive half an hour late... it's a cultural thing. Therefore the only way this thing works good is if you come during the designated time and camp out of the WiseNomad.com homepage for the entire hour. If everybody comes to the page, finds that nobody is there, and then leaves 2 minutes later, it won't be a very good experience for anyone. On the other hand, if everybody camps out for the entire hour, it's much more likely that it will be a valuable experience for everybody that participates.

Suggestions

1. Check Time - figure out the corresponding chat time for whatever time zone you happen to be in.
2. Get Speakers - if at all possible, get your computer set up so that you can do voice chat. This is by no means required to participate, but it really adds a great deal.
3. Organize your Crew - get everyone that you will be travelling with to show up so that if no one else shows up, you can still talk about the trip among yourselves.
4. Tell a friend - tell everyone you know that might be interested... and give them a little advance notice so that they can set up the Odigo thing.
5. Show up and Park - go to the WiseNomad.com homepage right at the start of the chat session and PARK YOUR WEB BROWSER ON THAT PAGE FOR THE ENTIRE HOUR. If no one is there when you get there, put on some music, watch some TV, read the newspaper, eat, whatever. Just hang out and see who drops in. If everybody does this, it works great.
6. Post a Note - If you're there and you feel that you have to go to another page, post a note on the homepage of WiseNomad.com with your screen name so that when someone else goes to that page, they can track you down and invite you back for a chat.
7. Stay Late - obviously, if a bunch of people are participating and the given chat session time period is ending... who cares? Stay as long as you want and discuss whatever you want.
8. Chat Topics aren't set in Stone - you can chat about Europe (or whatever you want) during the Australian chat session and vice versa. These are just loose suggestions.
9. Don't be a Prick - enough said. If you're looking for a sketchy chat room, piss off!
