#19 Ranked Hostel in the World Inside Report First, let's be honest… this hostel sucks, but location makes many a shoddy hostel worth visiting and this one is a must see. The hostel is really just a place to sleep, but it's right on the beach in the ultimate lifestyle town, San Diego, California. Located in Pacific Beach, a vibrant beachside community with a small town feel and big city attractions, the hostel sits right in the epicenter of Southern California's youth culture. It's an ideal backpacker town as everyone in the town is between 20 and 30 years old. None of the locals seem to work - it's like they are all on an eternal vacation. The waves are good for surfing, the beach is good for people watching, and the bars in the local area go off every night of the week.
