#2 Ranked Hostel in the World Inside Report Hervey Bay is the departure point for one of the greatest adventures a traveler can have in Australia, the 4WD Fraser Island camping trip. This is an absolute must according to everyone who has done it. At the hostel, you throw together a group of 8 or 9 people (Koala's will help you fill out a good group), you buy your food and drink for the 3 day tour at the local grocery store, Koala's packs up your Land Rover with all the camping gear you'll need, and you all pile in. A ferry takes you to the largest sand island in the world, Fraser Island, and drops you off. Your group has 3 days to explore the islands jungles, beaches (Fraser's freeways), shark infested waters, shipwrecks, and pristine lakes. There are dozens of other Land Rovers filled with backpackers doing the same thing, so the nights turn into impromptu parties. Back to the hostel… Koala's is a world class hostel a half of a block from the bay. At night they've got a lively bar where the people are friendly and dancing on the tables is standard, and during the day they've got a great pool to lounge around.
