- Good Friends & Good Theater
London, UK
We
met Lisa's good friend, Richard (fellow Saltminer), for
lunch and an afternoon showing of Agatha Cristie's "The
Mousetrap". This play has been running in London for a record
49 consecutive years! It is a mystery, but with a fair amount
of humor thrown in. Neither of us was able to predict the
outcome, and although I know everyone is dying to know who-done-it,
we cannot say. The play's actors swore us to secrecy and
we aren't about to ruin a 49 year old good thing. You'll
just have to come to London and see for yourself...
After the play, we spent the afternoon walking around Leicester
Square and Covent Garden (two of London's popular shopping
areas), with Richard as our guide. Traveling via backpack
is a good way to curb your desire to spend money. We find
ourselves evaluating purchases less on their cost and more
on whether we are willing to add them to our packs. (Inevitably,
the answer to that question is no)
Although
our pace has been rather slow since our arrival in London,
I (Lisa) am very glad we decided to start our journey here.
Having a week to relax and recharge in a place that is familiar
to us has been great. We've also enjoyed spending time with
Mark and Sabath - a luxury we don't often get, as well as
catching up with Richard, who has been on assignment in
Saltmine's London office since September. I know I'm slowly
transitioning into travel mode though, because I've already
started referring to the U.S. as "the States", I no longer
care that I'm missing the last half of Survivor II, and
I'm only doing the Seattle to London time conversion once
or twice a day.
